Contest Posting Tutorial - Please read before posting a contest here!
Please do a search before posting a new offer to see if it has already been posted. We all miss things that have been posted from time to time and repost, but the more reposts there are, the more work it is for the mods to keep this area tidy.
Our search engine in not the greatest, however please search a few times prior to posting.
As fiji added:
***FYI: When searching to see if a contest/giveaway has already been posted, just click on "Search this Forum" (in the blue box at the top right of the forum) and type in the key word(s) - usually the name of the contest sponsor.
A list of any/all threads with the word(s) will then be displayed. ***
Posting a Contest:
First off click on top left of page.
Always choose whether the contest is an hourly, daily, one time entry, weekly, monthly, or unlimited. Rules are very important***
Please ensure that the contest is open to Canadians, another important feature.
Always type the sponsor of the contest first. <----------------------------------------------------
Example: The contest is held by L'oreal, and it is a daily entry to win a makeover in Toronto, plus a $1000 shopping spree and it expires July 8, 2009.
In the title you would first type:
Daily (from the dropdown on the left) - L'oreal-Win a trip to Toronto for a makeover, plus $1000 shopping spree/July8
If it expires this year in 2009, there is no need to add 2009 as we already assume. The only time we add the year is that if it expires a year from now, in that case we would type /July 8, 2010
Never type the 'th' on to 8 for example, or if it expires on the 21st, no need to add the 'st' to 21.
Just July 8 would be sufficient.
Now please always type something about the contest in the body if you can about the prize, or what provinces it is open to, or all of Canada, whatever...and include the link to the contest.
At the bottom underneath the body of the message, choose a colourful post icon, just tick it off.
Under the post icons, you will see a option that says the following:
Tags
Separate tags using a comma.
In that empty box, just add a few words pertaining to the contest:
ie: l'oreal, win,makeover,shopping,toronto
Then click on Submit! That is it!
This really helps build our search engine up!:socool
Thanks very much for your understanding, and should you have any questions, please ask me!!

Thanks so much for posting this thread Roxxy!
FYI: When searching to see if a contest/giveaway has already been posted, just click on " Search this Forum" (in the blue box at the top right of the forum) and type in the key word(s) - usually the name of the contest sponsor.
A list of any/all threads with the word(s) will then be displayed.
As Roxxy said, it is best to try it a few times with different a key word (or variation of the word) to make sure that there will not be any re-posting.
Thanks to all for making this such a great site and super big thanks to Roxxy and the mods for all of their amazing work!

With regard to the use of the search engine for contest navigation, posters will make the searches far more rewarding if there is no space put between the Month and the Day of a contest's expiration.
Example: July8 rather than July 8.
Just a thought....
Thanks to all those who post contests. Your work is ever so appreciated!!!

I agree Lazarus. When no space is used it makes it much easier to use the search option. If there is a space between month and date nothing will come up in search and you can miss an awesome contest that has been posted.
